Ein wilder Ritt / Wild Thing on the Snow

 

 

Was für eine gewaltige Schneemenge in Nordhessen! Holly ist ein toughes Mädchen, also hat sie sich unseren Hengst Don Alfonso gesattelt für ein schönes Abenteuer.

 

What a big amount of snow in North Hassia! Holly is a brave girl, and so she took our stallion Don Alfonso out to enjoy the snow.

 

"Laaangsam, Don Alfonso! Wir haben's nicht eilig!"

 

 "Easy, Don Alfonso! We're not in a hurry!"

 

"Priiiimaa. Guter Junge!"

 

"That's fine. Good boy!"

 

"Da vorne ist ein Eichhörnchen? Geht uns nichts an. Bleib cool!"

 

"There is a squirrel ahead? Not our problem, boy. Stay calm!"

 

"So ist's fein. Feiner Junge."

 

"Here we go. Good boy."

 

"Braves Pferd. Sehr brav!"

 

"Good horse you are. Very good."

"Hier ist es ziemlich steil. Laangsam, Junge, laaangsam!!!"

 

"Here is a bit of a sharp ascent. Easy, boy, eeeaaasyyy!!!"
 

 

"Geschafft! So ein guterJunge! Und jetzt..."

 

"Done! Such a fine boy! And now..."

 

"Ab nach Hause! Die heiße Schokolade wartet - und eine Riesenmöhre für dich, Don Alfonso!"

 

"...let's go home! Hot chocolate is waiting - and a big carrot for you, Don Alfonso!" 

Erster Schnee / First Snow

 

Der erste Schnee des Winters! Natürlich hat Adelheid Foxi gesattelt und ist mit ihr los zu einem winterlichen Ausritt.

 

First snow this winter! Naturally, Adelheid has saddled Foxi and took her for a snowy ride.

 

Peter ist mit Hans unterwegs. Aber was ist das?

 

Peter did the same with Hans. But what is that?

 

"Hallo! Toller Tag heute, oder?"

"Aber hallo! Bloß, Peter... Hans hat Stroh im Fell! Du mußt eine Runde ausgeben!"

 

"Hi! Nice day, isn't it?"

"Of course. But, Peter... Hans has got straw on his back! You have to buy a round!"

"Muß ich nur wenn er Stroh im Schweif hat. Hat er nicht, nur am Hintern!" 

 

"Only when there is straw in his tail. But it is only on his butt!" 

 

 

Da ist Adelheid sprachlos. Frecher Kerl!

 

This leaves Adelheid speechless. This boy!

Boys in short supply/Jungs sind Mangelware

Was für ein schöner Tag für einen Spaziergang mit Anamcara, unserer Deutschen Schäferhündin!

"Wollten die Jungs nicht mitkommen?" fragt Beverly Holly. 

 

"Didn't the boys want to come with us?" Beverly asks Holly. 

  

"Da kommt Peter! Na wenigstens einer..."

 

"There's Peter! At least one of them..." 

 

 

Anamcara

 

Unser großartiger Hundefreund Obadijah lehrte uns, daß es kein schönes Leben ohne Hund gibt. So, mit einer tiefen Verneigung vor einer wahrhaft großen Persönlichkeit:

Abschied von einem guten Freund / Farewell to a Good Friend

 Am 10. Februar mußten wir unseren geliebten Hund Obadijah einschläfern lassen. Für uns ein großer Verlust. Ich hatte ein paar lustige Wintergeschichten geplant - aber jetzt fehlt mir jede Lust dazu. Vielleicht nächsten Winter...

On February, 10th, we had to euthanasize our beloved dog Obadijah. To us, it is a big loss. I had planned to set and share some funny winter stories, but am not able to. Maybe I will put them here next winter...

Obadijah, ein wundervoller Alaskan Malamute-Rüde, wurde am 6. Mai 2011 geboren und kam im März 2012 als Arbeitshund zu uns. Er arbeitete jahrelang als Schlittenhund und ermöglichte uns, unsere beidenTierschutzhuskies auszulasten. In seinen letzten beiden Lebensjahren hatte er, unser letzter Hund, akzeptiert, daß er das Wild ohnehin nicht mehr kriegt, und so konnten wir ihm Freilauf gewähren. 

Wenige Tage, nachdem dieses Foto entstand, hatte er einen Unfall und konnte nicht mehr laufen, auch nicht mehr alleine stehen. Dann kamen Komplikationen dazu, sodaß wir ihn gehen lassen mußten. Fast 14 Jahre alt...

Wir werden ihn vermissen.

Obadijah, a wonderful male Alaskan Malamute, has been born on May 6th 2011 and came to us in March 2012 as a working dog, and he really worked, for many years, as a sled dog, helping us exercise our two Siberian Huskies we had taken from a shelter. In his last two years, he had accepted he would no longer be able to catch the game, so we were able to let him run free. The last of our dogs, he did not try to chase anymore. 

A few days after this photo was taken, he had an accident and could not longer walk or even stand alone. Then some complications occured and we had to let him go. Nearly 14 years old.

We will miss him.
